Yes, a stone border is a great thing, because it keeps the weeds / grass from coming in from the grassy area. You do need to sink the stones (flat patio kind of bricks work best) so that they are flush with the ground. This makes it easier to mow, the mower can go right over them, and you won't get that horrible line of weeds in front of your flowers.Renaehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01126451644307989598noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2079026847028038729.post-91913087452271702752008-03-10T20:56:00.000-05:002008-03-10T20:56:00.000-05:00i don't think lack of flower knoledge counts as a ...i don't think lack of flower knoledge counts as a short comming. but i get you not wantting to ask her. i thought i kind of implied that already. i would have fun comming up with my fam for a spring clean up. you should talk to your hubby and my wife and figure something out.Brucehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18393933542909707916noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2079026847028038729.post-92208579718998898522008-03-10T18:38:00.000-05:002008-03-10T18:38:00.000-05:00how do you know if your flowers are over crowded? ...how do you know if your flowers are over crowded? and if you want to put in a border, like some stones, how do you do that? newspaper, huh? i'll have to find some. but what do you do about the flowers? you know, you don't want the weeds to come up, but you do want the flowers to come up, how do you do that? mayhap i should just call you. and yes, i know that our mother in law is good at this type of stuff, bruce, but somehow admitting to her my faults and shortcomings is just not palatable at this point. anyway, how did this turn in to the gardening blog, lol! i'm the most horrible gardener on the planet, this is just too funny!lizShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02545210941031470270noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2079026847028038729.post-13997814771595869392008-03-10T16:00:00.000-05:002008-03-10T16:00:00.000-05:00I will take you up on that tiller as soon as I can...I will take you up on that tiller as soon as I can borrow it from you Bruce. You don't have to till it for me! I should be able to figure it out:)

What's wrong with your flower beds Liz? Are they crowded or just weed filled?

If you decide to thin out the flowers themselves, just lay down mulch under them to make it look more "landscapey". I put down a layer of newspaper, and then lay a two inch mulch layer over that. The newspaper under the mulch keeps the weeds from coming up under the mulch.timpani76https://www.blogger.com/profile/02616963163699950161noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2079026847028038729.post-87694055808663387142008-03-10T15:53:00.000-05:002008-03-10T15:53:00.000-05:00yay! lauren found us! welcome!yay! lauren found us! welcome!lizShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02545210941031470270noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2079026847028038729.post-70006653512333804092008-03-10T12:49:00.000-05:002008-03-10T12:49:00.000-05:00Hey there!!
